Debut Single: Chase the Sun

Biography

Melaura is a West-coast-country singer-songwriter from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Her lifelong passion for ecology, finding solutions to social or environmental challenges and spreading positivity, resounds in her upbeat, eclectic music. Always open to something new and broadly trained on many instruments, her influences span a wide variety of genres and artists. Growing up torn between her prairie heritage and new island home, she didn’t seem to “fit in” anywhere. Over time, she found a sense of place in her small city and became surrounded by a vibrant musical community. Writing music serves as a way to pay it forward and give back to this community. Melaura released her debut single Chase the Sun in 2019. The accompanying tour included stops at many local establishments, the Parksville Beach Festival, Special Woodstock and the Gorge Canada Day Celebrations, as well as a special interview with Guy Dauncey on Shaw TV. She then took a hiatus from recording to pursue a Masters in Environmental Education and Communication, but never stopped independently studying and teaching music.  She will be re-entering the music scene this October with her newest full studio and video accompanied rock-country single Paradise. This song is devoted to her hometown and is currently available acoustically on Musician’s of Vancouver Island. Next summer she will be releasing a musical hiking vlog, exploring ecology and local solutions for our environmental challenges, always making music along the way.
