How to get started in the music business

Ever wonder how to find a music teacher/mentor or become a teacher, performer, producer, manager, etc.? Is everyone telling you it's a pipe dream, because no one in your social circle knows where to start? As the only musician in my family, I've been there!
This week long course will give you some answers that are often hard to find. All content will be focused on the Canadian music industry, but may be relevant internationally. I have had to learn everything the hard way, from teaching (20 years), to performing, to recording, to running a business (songwriting, directing/video design, marketing, distribution, management, gig acquisition, legal and financial management, etc.). Independent artists are often solely responsible for their business and music releases, which makes a broad skillset a necessity.

Beginner Piano
Ages 7+ welcome!

Learn the basics of playing piano in any genre in just 1 month!
In 4 weekly lessons, I will show you:
- A few healthy habits for playing the piano (safety first! you don't want strain injuries)
- ALL of the white keys
- Treble and Bass Clef
- Reading the staff (lines and spaces from: Bass G - Treble A)
- Rhythm values (beats)
- A simple scale: C Major
- Your first chord: C Major
- Lead sheets versus sheet music
- and even how to play 4 beginner songs from sheet music (paper with notes on it)!
This class will include instruction and some time in class for you to try new techniques, as well as a few informative slides/videos, emailed directly to your inbox for memory jogging. The best part is: all you need is a keyboard/piano and a "Google Meet" capable computer. No prior lessons or knowledge required!! This course is a great primer for beginners or review for those who have had a lesson or two, before advancing to weekly private lessons.

Beginner Singing
Ages: 7+

Sign up quick to get in on all the fun of learning the ABC’s and 3 pillars of singing! This introductory course will be a half hour a week, but students will have lots to practice and many new skills to develop throughout the course and beyond. Each class we will learn new techniques and apply them to our song(s), by the end of the month we should be able to perform for each other and/or our family's using a backing track and all the basic techniques we learned in class! Classes are designed for anyone looking for a quick primer to get their feet wet or just a quick review of basic techniques.
What we will learn:
· How your instrument (body) works
· Warm up and Singing Exercises:
- ABC’s of singing: healthy and efficient breathing, posture, projection and articulation
- Pitch and rhythm matching
- How to find your natural range and expand it
· Vocal artistry and phrasing
· Tricks for efficient practice
· How to build and maintain your confidence, as well as reduce tension (singing badly)
And much more.
Schedule:
Week 1: The biology, pillars and practice techniques of healthy singing.
Week 2: Projection, pitches and ranges using vowel and consonant warmups (ABC's).
Week 3: Using rhythm, phrasing and artistry in your songs.
